If OpenAI’s private round truly pushes past $100B—paired with an implied post-money range around $830B–$850B—this isn’t a normal growth raise. It’s closer to a strategic repricing that moves OpenAI from “model company” toward something that looks like a global AI infrastructure operator. At this scale, capital becomes a statement: the next moat isn’t only model quality, but compute supply, datacenters, power, networking, and downstream pricing leverage.
But the tension rises in parallel. Rounds of this magnitude assume extremely high long-term growth and a credible path to cash-flow durability. The hard question is whether inference cost declines, enterprise paid adoption, and the pace of AI monetization can keep up with the linear, unforgiving expectations of capital. Technology evolves nonlinearly; financial return requirements don’t.

A new socket is the classic signal of a platform reset—not just a CPU swap. Intel is effectively pushing the entire desktop stack forward: motherboards, power delivery, I/O, memory strategy, and expandability. A higher pin count typically maps to higher peak power, more complex VRM requirements, and higher bandwidth board-level interconnect—suggesting Nova Lake is designed to raise the platform ceiling, not merely add incremental performance.
Desktop demand is also structurally shifting.
